My Week in Review (Plus a Couple of Extra Days Thrown in There).

It’s been a very busy week here at The Early Bird Catches the Worm, and will continue to be for the next week or so. Whoever thought of scheduling Easter on the same long weekend as ANZAC Day was “seriously disturbed”, as Elle Woods would say.

Sunday 17th: Got back from an early Easter weekend with my Mum in Bendigo, where I caught up with some friends, sat in the hairdresser’s chair for a couple of hours, went secondhand book shopping and to the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Monday 18th: Was all tuckered out from my weekend in the country I decided to lie in bed all day and watch Grey’s Anatomy.

Tuesday 19th: Did some blogging and jogging and went to see Sucker Punch. As my Facebook status that night said: “Well, it certainly lived up to the first four letters of the title.” Review pending.

Wednesday 20th: Ten hour shift at work.

Thursday 21st: Got up, went for a jog, blogged, went to the supermarket, work, waxing of the nether region, cleaned the house, friend’s 21st.

Friday 22nd: Slept in, had 21st cake for breakfast, watched Paper Giants, Desperate Housewives, Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy.

Saturday 23rd: Work.

Sunday 24th: Work and fell asleep at 8:30.

Monday 25th: Had to get a taxi to work ’cause trains and trams were down due to the ANZAC Day march. Worked on the blog and had a Scream movie marathon at a friend’s house in preparation for seeing the latest instalment next Tuesday.

Today: Was at the airport at 6:30 this morning to send of April, who’s leaving for Canada at 10:45am. The Maccas breakfast that followed did little to ease my pain…

Early Bird Hiatus.

I’ll be disconnected for the next two days, taking some time off to replenish my energy and sanity stores. Got a big month coming up, so need a little break before jumping in head first.

See you on Thursday!

Early Bird Hiatus.

Due to recovering from illness, work, a laptop on the fritz, wisdom teeth that are making it hard for me to function like a normal human being, and a house inspection, I will not be posting today.

Thanks for understanding!

Show Me Your Desk

This month’s Madison features “the most stylish workplaces” of florists, interior decorators, brand managers, Red Bull’s “product marketeers”, and clothing boutique owners.

The article, “Step Into My Office” inspired me to share with you the Early Bird Catches the Worm workspace: my desk. As you can see, I have a Tiffany blue and pink colour scheme, an antique chair of my mothers’ and war-time desk, photoframes without pictures in them, which is quintessentially me, ornaments, perfume bottles, sentimental cards, and a Wicked mug that doubles as a pen holder.

Today, however, I’ve relocated to the couch…

Early Bird Hiatus – Attacking the Stack

I’m having a blog-free day today, and instead I’m ”attacking the stack” in an attempt to lighten my load of reading material and churn out some reviews.

See you next week!

The Early Bird Catches the Worm has some pressing day-job issues to attend to today, but will be back bright and early tomorrow morning with more blogging goodness!

Have a lovely day!

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Scarlett Harris and I am the creator and administrator of The Early Bird Catches the worm.

I have been wanting to start a blog for over 12 months, so what better time to start it now that I don’t have to commute to and from work every day?

I live in Melbourne, Victoria, and in 2008 I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Professional & Creative Writing from Deakin University, with a double major in Media & Communications. I have also done work experience with Cosmopolitan magazine and the RSPCA.

My passions are reading books, magazines and other blogs, writing, pop culture and social commentary, which this here blog will primarily focus on. I’m also partial to good food and shopping, which may crop up on from time to time ;).

My favourite authors are the late Dominick Dunne and Mick Foley (yes, the professional wrestler! Check out any number of his memoirs, children’s books and novels; he’s actually a brilliant writer.). Book wise, I love To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (come on, who doesn’t?), A Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (likewise), The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, Watership Down by Richard Adams, Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann (guilty pleasure) and A Lion’s Tale by Chris Jericho (another wrestler autobio!).

In addition to book reviews, I will also be profiling magazines (both local and international), blogs and various internet happenings, movies and television, events and authors/people in the media.

Keep in mind this is a small blog, starting out with basically no readership and not many media contacts, so any suggestions or constructive criticism is welcome. Please, if you like what you see, recommend The Early Bird Catches the Worm to friends!

Enjoy!

Scarlett Harris
